MPQ Data Files

The MPQ files are the data files used by Diablo and Hellfire for the assets in the game. They are required for DevilutionX to function properly.

DIABDAT.MPQ

To play Diablo and/or Hellfire you will need to have the DIABDAT.MPQ file. There are two ways to get the DIABDAT.MPQ file:

• Copy DIABDAT.MPQ from an original CD copy of Diablo.

or

• Buy the game from GoG.com or Battle.net
  • Install the game. Then copy DIABDAT.MPQ from the install directory.

  or

  • Extract the .MPQs from the GoG installer here.

Hellfire MPQ files

To play the Hellfire expansion you will need to have the 4 Hellfire MPQ files (hellfire.mpq, hfmonk.mpq, hfmusic.mpq, hfvoice.mpq). There are two ways to get the Hellfire MPQ files:

• Copy the 4 Hellfire MPQ files from an original Hellfire expansion CD.

or

• Buy the game from GoG.com or Battle.net
  • Install the game. Then copy the 4 MPQ files from the hellfire subdirectory in the install directory.

  or

  • Extract the .MPQs from the GoG installer here.

Shareware/Demo

If you do not own a copy of the CD or the digital download. You can download the spawn.mpq which is extracted from the shareware version. This will enable DevilutionX to play the shareware portion of the game.
